Potholes can leave behind an unpleasant reminder which can burn your pocket too.
While other parts of the world, Potholes are formed when moisture collects in small holes and cracks in the road surface plus the amount of traffic and combine weight of passing cars and the drastic temperature changes etc. However, in Malaysia... it is caused mainly by poor workmanship and cutting the fucking corners when doing the maintenance.. Now, how can we help ourselves from being fork out unnecessary expenses to repair our vehicle?
These are some points I stumble upon in the net... They are.....:
1. Look Ahead – it’s important to stay focused on the road, an alert driver may have time to avoid potholes and avoid anything that may cause distractions might it be inside or outside the vehicle. You know lah.... some drivers like to display their kids toys on the dashboard. Before swerving to avoid a pothole, check surrounding traffic to ensure this won’t cause a collision or endanger nearby pedestrians or cyclists. Make it a point.
2. Slow Down – What if a pothole cannot be avoided??? Kan nin nahh... Here what you can do...reduce speed safely make sure to check the rear view mirror before any sudden braking. Hitting a pothole at higher speeds will greatly increases the chance of damage to tires, wheels and suspension components.
3. Beware of Puddles – A puddle of water can disguise a deep pothole. Use care when driving through puddles and treat them as though they may be hiding potholes.
4. Check Alignment – Hitting a pothole can knock the wheels out of alignment and affect the steering. If a vehicle pulls to the left of right, have the wheel alignment checked by a qualified technician.
5. Recognize Noises/Vibrations – A hard pothole impact can dislodge wheel weights, damage a tire or wheel, and bend or even break suspension components. Any new or unusual noises or vibrations that appear after hitting a pothole should be inspected immediately by a certified technician.
6. Inspect Tires – I don't know how this is related but just make sure tires are properly inflated and have enough tread . They claim that an underinflated or badly worn tire is more likely to suffer damage, or allow the wheel or suspension to be damaged, when hitting a pothole.
7. Inspect Suspension – always check to see all struts, shock absorbers and other suspension parts are in good condition. Changes in vehicle handling, excessive vibration or uneven tire wear can indicate damaged or worn components. Have the suspension inspected by a certified technician if you suspect problems.
Question is can we claim the authority or the council for the damages??
